FANTASTIC FACTS

The hotel’s garden features cherry blossom trees planted by the daughter and granddaughter of Mayor Ozaki, the man who gifted the original 3,000 cherry blossom trees to Washington, DC in 1912.

Among the many pieces of art displayed, the large signature painting in the lobby, “Above Washington, DC” which was commissioned from artist Zhong-Yang Huang, depicts the last empress of China on a swing over DC, blending Eastern and Western cultures. She lived in the “Forbidden City” in Beijing and reportedly had a fascination with western culture.

Mandarin Oriental, Washington DC is the only hotel in the city to provide direct access to the Jefferson Memorial, Tidal Basin and the city’s famed Cherry Blossom trees.

The hotel is the largest, luxury hotel in Washington, DC to be 100 percent wind powered.
